Breast Cancer: Categories and Primary Signs

Breast cancer can develop in the milk ducts (ductal carcinoma) or the milk-producing glands (lobular carcinoma). It includes various types, such as invasive, inflammatory, recurrent, and metastatic breast cancer. HER2-positive breast cancer is driven by gene mutations that accelerate abnormal cell growth. Symptoms like lumps, nipple discomfort, or changes in skin texture should prompt medical attention. Early diagnosis greatly increases the chance of successful treatment.

Main Types of Breast Cancer:

  1. Invasive Breast Cancer– The most common type detected.
  2. Inflammatory Breast Cancer– A rare, fast-progressing cancer.
  3. Recurrent Breast Cancer– When cancer comes back post-treatment.
  4. Metastatic Breast Cancer– The most severe stage, spreading beyond the breast.

What Is HER2-Positive Breast Cancer?

HER2 is a gene responsible for controlling growth in breast cells. When this gene is mutated and overexpressed, it causes rapid, uncontrolled cell division, leading to HER2-positive breast cancer. Though aggressive, this type responds well to specific targeted therapies.

Warning Signs of Breast Cancer:

  • Unusual swelling in the breast• Detectable lumps in the breast or armpit• Pain, discharge, or inward turning of the nipple• Red or flaky skin on the breast• Sudden changes in breast shape or size

If you notice these signs, speak with a healthcare provider promptly. Early intervention can improve the effectiveness of treatment.
